HEOC: CANNOLI'S AND LUNA

It has been awhile since I have posted a "Healthy Eating & Observing Club" as nothing is as dear to my heart as fun astronomy and food. One must be well fueled at the eyepiece to make quality observations!

Part of a good meal is desert and these cannoli's purchased by Mrs.SUG along with a NY style pizza to feed herself and my college age son. Oh my was this food authentic, really just like I had as a kid back on the east coast. But now in middle age and with food allergies the pizza is a no no but a little bit of this is OK along with pesto pasta and a yummy salad. When Mrs.SUG arrived with the treats I was busy enjoying a late afternoon with a day 5 Luna from the patio - perfect timing and combo!

Ah, the bliss of the creamy, crunchy, slightly bitter sweet gooey goodness invading my taste buds! Ah, there was bliss at the eyepiece too but more on that for another posting.

Now my readers here is a chance to put your observational skills to use. Enlarge this image and post the similarities between this tasty treat and our moon! There are lots!

Is your son into Astronomy like you?

Hi Johany! No my son Beau is not a Jr.SUG. His passions lie elsewhere: music (like you!)photography, math and english. His writing skills are off the chart as you would never guess that from his pops writing skills! He owns a very serious camera and flora / fauna are his main targets. He writes and composes keyboard pieces and loves classical music/fusion jazz. He just completed a level 3 calculus class with a 4.0! Where he got all this I do not know.....it was not from me!

food is always a great piece of equipment at the eyepiece. NICE Moon map there.

Hey NSG. That's the Sky & Telescope Field Map Of The Moon - laminated(protected from SUGO food spills), 4 corner folding with overlapping graphics, libration scales. Wonderful product and easy to use at the scope!

I have the same Moon map. The lamination is nice, especially around here, where dew is almost a given by midnight.

I've used it, but not so much for my own use, but for sidewalk outreach and such. For my private lunar observing, I use my laptop and the free download Virtual Moon Atlas program. The amount of information VMA contains is awesome, and you can change the emphemaris to the date and time you are observing, and see the terminator running right where you see it along the lunar surface. Plus you can flip the N-S or E-W orientation to the same as viewed through the eyepiece. Since I've been viewing Luna through a Newtonian for years now, an upside down view of the Moon doesn't bother me at all, but when viewing the backward image of a refractor, I get lost. It's nice to be able to match the VMA to exactly what I'm seeing.
